ATLANTA, GA (January 14, 2017) – The Fort Valley State University men's basketball team went into Morehouse College house tonight looking for their fifth conference win but came away on the losing end 69-74 at Forbes Arena.
Wildcats drop to an overall record of 6-9 and 4-2 in the SIAC, while Morehouse improves to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Wildcats went to half down by nine (30-39), as sophomore guard
Jaylon McMillan scored 10-points and senior forward
Dareial Franklin had five rebounds. Tyrius Walker hit 12-points for MHC.
For the half, FVSU hit 36.1 percent of their shots from the field, 25.0 percent in 3-pointers and 33.3 percent at the foul line.
The Maroon Tigers went up by six (13-7) at the 12:20 mark, senior center
Kris Bell's layup with 11:41 left to cut the lead to 11-13. MHC's Dudy Maduegbunam made it 19-12, FVSU's junior forward
James Barnes layup closed the gap 23-25 and with .14 seconds remaining MHC took their largest lead of nine.
FVSU went on a 6-0 run in the second half to cut the margin to 36-39. Martravious Little's dunk increased MHC's lead to 43-36, senior guard
Jalen Crawford's 3-pointer led the Wildcats to their first lead 46-45 with 15:17 to go. After several ties, MHC took the lead for good with seven minutes left.
Crawford led the Wildcats in scoring with 15-points, as he 6-of-13 shots from the floor, 3-of-7 in 3-pointers, five rebounds, one assist and one block. McMillan added 10-points and
James Barnes had eight boards.
Ayinde Russell led four players for MHC in double digest with 22-points and Omar Alston grabbed nine rebounds.
FVSU will host Paine College on Monday, January 16 at 8 pm.
