WILDCATS SNAP ONE GAME LOSING STREAK WITH WIN OVER TUSKEGEE

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Senior Denard Williams scored a double-double for Fort Valley State with a game-high 12 rebounds and 14 points as they defeated the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee 65-52 Saturday in Tuskegee.
 
FVSU overall record is 9-11 and 7-4 in the SIAC. Tuskegee dropped to 5-15 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
 
FVSU went to the half up 29-24. Williams's put the Wildcats ahead 9-7 at the 14:02 mark, then senior Jalen Crawford made a jumper to increase the lead to 16-7. At the 9:36 mark, sophomore Tyler Edwards gave the Wildcats their largest lead of 10 points (18-8). Then with 4:16 left, Tuskegee cut the lead to one, but still trailed by five at the half.
 
After coming back from halftime, the Wildcats went on a 23-6 run to make the score 52-30.  The second half was all FVSU as they never looked back and picked up a much needed win.
 
Williams connected on 4-of-6 baskets from the floor, making 6-of-9 free throws, blocked one shot and had one steal. Senior point guard Jalen Crawford led the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points hitting three 3-pointers, while James Barnes added 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots. FVSU out rebounded Tuskegee 43-34.
 
Austin Cherry led the Golden Tigers in scoring with a game-high 18 points and team-high seven rebounds.
 
The Wildcats hit 47.3 percent of their shots from the field, 40.0 percent from behind the arc and 60.0 percent at the free throw line. Tuskegee made 30.2 percent in shooting from the floor, 30.0 percent in three pointers and 70.0 at the foul line. The teams tied the score four times and the lead changed only once.
 
The Wildcats will travel to Fairfield, Ala., on Monday to play conference foe Miles College at 7:30 pm (CST).
