FORT VALLEY, AL – Congratulation to Gregory Lenard Lloyd for being named one of the 25 finalist for induction into the Black College Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2018. Lloyd is a former American Football Linebacker in the NFL for the
Pittsburgh Steelers. He was named AFC Player of the Year in 1994, while earning five Pro-Bowls and three NFL All-Pro teams from 1992-1996.
Lloyd (born May 26, 1965) was a standout football player at Fort Valley State University from 1983-86, Lloyd was a three-time All-SIAC selection and was also named SIAC Player of the Year in 1986. Lloyd was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 1987 draft. His career lasted more than 10 seasons with the storied franchise.
Lloyd was injured his first year 1987, and most of the 1988 season, but became a starter during the 1989 season at outside linebacker where he excelled. He became the emotional and fiery leader of the Steelers defense and drafted in 1987 by then Steelers coach chuck Noll.
Lloyd was indeed the most feared player in the league for his time. Jim Harbaugh claims he wasn't afraid of anything until he played against Greg Lloyd, the man he respected and feared on the gridiron more than anyone.
