DAHLONEGA, GA – The Lady Wildcats Basketball team traveled to Dahlonega to face the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia as they fell 94-37 this evening at Memorial Hall.
Fort Valley State dropped to 0-3 on the season and the University of North Georgia improved to 3-0.
The Lady Wildcats had a slow start that haunted them the entire game. The Nighthawks set the pace from the start and did not look back as they led Fort Valley State 19-5 after quarter one. The Lady Wildcats were held to 11-points for the first half and trailed the Nighthawks 47-11 at the half.
Nola Carter had a double-double for the Lady Wildcats with 13 boards and 10-points, while
Alicia Franklin tied for the lead in scoring with 10-points. Franklin went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe and grabbed five rebounds.
Kaylan West added eight points, five rebounds and
Antonia Jones sank seven points.
Carter's 13 rebounds were not enough as the UNG held FVSU to 37-points for the game.
FVSU finished the game shooting 18.6 percent from the field (11-59) while the Nighthawks was 36-of-72 for 50 percent. Both teams showed double digests in turnovers with the Lady Wildcats having 18 and UNG 17. The Lady Wildcats fell short on the boards at 32-50.
Julianne Sutton led UNG with 16-points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Wildcats will travel to Americus, Ga., on Friday, November 17 to play in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC)/Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Challenge as they face the Cougars of Columbus State on the campus of Georgia Southwestern University. The game is scheduled for 5 pm.
