SAVANNAH, GA – Junior guard
Jaylon McMillan led the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University with 35-points in their first victory of the 2017-18 season in an exhibition game over Division I foe Savannah State University 103-89 Tuesday night at Tiger Arena.
The Wildcats started slow falling behind 6-4 early, but after a couple minutes of getting warmed up, the Wildcats took control and went to half up 43-38.
FVSU had the ball to start the second half and McMillan came out on fire. After only having four points in the first half, he scored 17-points within a three minute time span, while playing a total of 29 minutes. McMillan hit 11-of-19 baskets from the floor, made eight three pointers and sank 5-of-7 free throws. Junior guard
Tyler Edwards finished with 17-points and nine rebounds in 23 minutes of play. Senior forward
Walter Foster ended the game with a double-double 19 rebounds and 13-points. Senior point guard
J. R. Bryant led the Wildcats in assist with seven while adding seven rebounds and senior guard
Jamaal Garror chipped in 11-points.
FVSU scored on 34-of-79 (43%) field goals, made 15-of-42 (36%) three's, while making 20-of-27 (74%) free throws. The team out rebounded Savannah State 66-59 and dished out 22-13 assists over the Tigers.
The Wildcats next game is Saturday, November 11 at 7 pm (CST) as they take on the Blazers of Valdosta State University in the SIAC/GSC (Gulf South Conference) Challenge in Pensacola on the campus of the University of West Florida.
