FORT VALLEY, GA –
Alicia Franklin led the Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State (0-12) with a game-high 19-points in the 73-54 loss to Clayton State University (3-4) Wednesday night at the HPE Complex on the campus of Fort Valley State.
Franklin made 5-of-16 baskets, 7-of-8 free throws and four steals.
Nola Carter had a double-double, 11 rebounds and 12-points. Carter led with four assists and went 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
Amiah Height and
Antonia Jones each had eight points, while
Kaylan West added six points.
Abreyln Rackley led Clayton State with 15-points and 8 rebounds, along with Aleisha Merriweather 8 rebounds.
For the game, FVSU hit 32.7 percent from the field, 22.2 percent in three's and 88.9 percent from the foul line. Clayton State made 39 percent of their baskets, 14.3 percent from behind the arc and 58.8 percent at the line.
Clayton State out rebounded the Lady Wildcats by 15, 51-36, while scoring 14-points in the paint, 11-points off turnovers and six fast break points.
The Lady Wildcats went to halftime up by 8, 34-26, on the back of Franklins' 16-points. FVSU held the Lady Lakers to just 29.4 percent shooting from the floor for the first two quarters. FVSU shot 40.7 percent from the field during the quarters.
Clayton State scored the first basket on Abreyln Rackley's jumper, then Franklin hit a three to make it 3-2. Both teams would tie the game three times before Carter's layup with :19 seconds remaining in the first quarter and a 15-14 lead.
In the third quarter, Clayton State fought back for a 38-38 tie and went ahead by 2, 42-40 with 4:53 left in the quarter. The Lady Lakers controlled game from that point as they increased their lead to 20 points more than four times in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Wildcats will host the Lady Tigers of Tuskegee University on Saturday, December 16 at 1 p.m.
