FORT VALLEY, GA – The Fort Valley State University softball team dropped a three game conference series this weekend to Clark Atlanta University 12-2, 9-1 and 14-6 on Thursday and Friday in Atlanta at Panther Field.
Freshman pitcher
Tenia Johnson (0-5) picked up the loss in game one after going four innings, giving up eight hits, seven earned runs, four base on balls, two strikeouts and two wild pitches. Game two, she went 4.1 innings to allow five earned runs off 12 hits, two base on balls, one strikeout, one wild pitch and hit one batter in Thursday's doubleheader. Shalonda Woods (2-3) won game one and Ajada CoField (4-4) won game two for the Panthers.
Game one:
The Lady Wildcats scored two runs on three hits and four errors, while CAU scored 12 runs off eight hits and no errors. Freshman catcher
Shakerra Geter started the second inning off with a double, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Freshman third baseman
Keteria Loney singled to score Geter from third. The Panthers scored four runs in the first inning, one in the second and seven in the third inning. Freshman second baseman
Aliyah Speight walked to lead off the fifth inning but was out at second base on a fielder's choice play to put freshman first baseman
Kaylen Johnson on first. Sophomore right fielder
Carmen Warren walked to advance Johnson to second. Freshman center fielder Ashley Blair walked to advance both runners in front of her to second and third base. Freshman shortstop
Brianna Jackson's sac fly to left field scored Johnson for FVSU's second run (12-2).
Game two:
Blair walked to lead off the first inning, Jackson singled to move Blair to second. Geter reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error by the second baseman. Jackson was out at second and Blair scored the unearned run. CAU put two runs on the board in the first, four more in the fourth and three in the fifth inning (8-1).
Game three on Friday:
Freshman pitcher
Brianna Jackson (0-1) got the loss, while going 4.0 innings pitched, gave up seven earned runs, five hits, walked 13 batters and had one strikeout. Jacey Gray (1-2) won game three.
The Lady Wildcats scored two runs in the first, three more in the fourth and one in the fifth inning. FVSU had four hits in this game and five errors. CAU added nine runs in the bottom half of the first, three in the second and two in the third inning.
The Lady Wildcats will play Georgia Southwestern State University in a doubleheader at Wildcat Field on Sunday, March 5 with game one starting at 2 p.m.
