FVSU DROPPED SIAC CONTEST TO CLARK ATLANTA

FORT VALLEY, GA – The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) (9-11; 6-6) Men's Basketball Team was not able to hold on to an early lead as they lost a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) contest 77-66 to Clark Atlanta University (CAU) (16-1; 10-0) Monday evening at the HPE Complex.
 
Jaylon McMillan led the Wildcats in scoring with 19-points, six rebounds, and two assists, while hitting eight baskets from the floor, two three-pointers, and going 1-of-2 at the free throw line. Tyler Edwards added 16-points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals and blocked a shot. Edwards made four shots from the floor and hit 7-of-8 foul shots. James Barnes blocked five shots, added eight points and six boards, while Walter Foster came off the bench for eight points and two blocks.
 
Anthony Williams led CAU with a game-high 21-points and a game-high eight boards. Michael Vigilance hit 16-points, Jamal Pollydore made 13-points and Jalen Mitchell and Shelvick Henry each added 11 and 10-points.
 
The Panthers outrebounded the Wildcats 34-33 while outscoring FVSU in the paint 31-26, both teams scored 11-points off turnovers.
 
FVSU made 46.8% (22-47) shots from the field, 29.4% (5-17) from behind the arc and 65.4% (17-26) from the free throw line.
 
CAU scored on 46.6% (27-58) of their shots from the floor, 40% (8-20) from three-point land and 55.6% (15-27) from the foul line.
 
The Wildcats started the game on a 7-0 run. CAU's Davis hit a jumper to cut the lead to 1 (10-11) at the 13:42 mark in the first half. With 8:11 left until halftime, Williams made a layup to put the Panthers ahead 21-20. Barnes tied the score at 24 with 6:48 left, but it and would be CAU taking a 35-29 lead into the locker room.
 
In the second half, CAU jumped out to a 22-point lead with 9:07 left in the game. The Wildcats fought back with Edwards making a layup at the 1:34 mark to close the scoring to 8 (62-70). The Panthers held on for the 77-66 victory.
 
FVSU's next game is on the road in Albany, GA on Saturday, January 20th as they take on Albany State University in a 6 p.m. contest.
