FORT VALLEY, GA – The Fort Valley State University Men's Basketball Team dropped a heartbreaker to Spring Hill College 60-56 Saturday afternoon at the HPE Complex.
FVSU falls to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in the SIAC. SHC improved to 4-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Jaylon McMillan led the Wildcats in scoring with 14-points while hitting five baskets from the field and four three-pointers.
Walter Foster led the team with a game-high nine rebounds and 10-points.
Tyler Edwards chipped in 12-points, four boards, three assists and went 3-for-4 at the foul line.
Brandon Fischer led the Badgers with 15-points and seven rebounds, while Dwight Harris added 14-points.
The Wildcats went to intermission up 32-23 after taking their largest lead of 15-points at the 2:30 mark in the first half. Edwards' 3-pointer with 12:09 to go in the half gave the team a 17-6 lead. Then,
Chris Smoak's 3-pointer and free throw increased the lead to 13 (30-17) with 3:58 left. Banks' layup made it 15 (32-17) with 2:30 remaining.
SHC came back in the second half on a 9-3 run to close the gap at 31-34 with 16:33 to go. Rojc Matevz's layup with 9:02 left tied the game for the first time at 45. Then, SHC went ahead with 8:38 remaining on Matevz's layup for the 47-45 lead. Foster's jumper would tie the game at 47 and
Jamaal Garror's free throws put FVSU back out front 49-47. The Badgers' went ahead for good 51-49 on Dwight Harris' jumper with 3:14 left.
The Wildcats next game is Monday, January 8, 2018, with Miles College at the HPE Complex with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m.
