FORT VALLEY, GA – Fort Valley State University's (0-16; 0-7)
Alicia Franklin led four Lady Wildcats in double figures with a team-high 21-points in the 89-57 loss to Spring Hill College (9-6; 3-3) Saturday afternoon at the HPE Complex on FVSU's campus.
Franklin hit six baskets from the floor, made four three-pointers, went 5-of-5 at the free throws line, grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and had three steals.
Amiah Height had eight boards, 13-points, and one block, while
Nola Carter added 15-points and a team-high five assists.
Jazmin Williams came off the bench to add five rebounds and four blocks in her first game of the season.
Angel Carthen led the Lady Badgers with a double-double 24-rebounds and 19-points, while Elise Reilly had a game-high 25-points.
The Lady Wildcats went to halftime down 39-44 after trailing by 18 in the second quarter. Carter made two free throws to get FVSU on the scoreboard. The Lady Badgers then went up by 6 points (10-4). FVSU went on a roll cutting the lead to 2 points (8-10), then Franklin's 3-pointer gave the Lady Wildcats a 1 point (11-10) lead with 4:13 left in the first quarter. SHC ended the quarter with a 10-point lead.
SHC out rebounded FVSU 60-42 while outscoring them in the paint 50-21, 28-15 off turnovers, 26-15 on second-chance shots and 24-5 on fast break points.
SHC went up by 18-points with 5:55 left in the second quarter on an Angel Carthen layup. FVSU chipped away at the lead and pulled within 2 (39-41) with seven seconds left.
SHC led by 28 at the end of the third quarter and as much as 32 in the fourth.
The Lady Wildcats next game is Monday, January 8, 2018, against Miles College at the HPE Complex. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
