Wildcats Start Strong, but Fall to Argonauts

VALDOSTA, Ga. – It was an encouraging first 10 minutes for the Wildcats Saturday afternoon. Fort Valley State started strong and led most of the opening frame, but West Florida raced out of the second half for the 75-50 women's basketball victory.

A Kaylan West layup midway through the first frame gave the Wildcats (0-2) an 8-4 lead. West Florida (2-0) rattled off the final five points for a 14-12 edge. Alicia Franklin drained a trey with 4:01 left in the second for what would be the final FVSU lead, 19-18. The Argonauts finished the second quarter on an 11-2 run and opened the third with the first 10 points to pull away.

Franklin totaled 22 points to lead all scorers with four triples, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out four assists for FVSU. West chipped in nine tallies and four boards. Alex Booker added eight rebounds to go with five points.

Toni Brewer paced the West Florida attack with 17 points and 14 caroms.

FVSU travels next to West Georgia for a 5:30 p.m. tilt on Tuesday evening, Nov. 13.
