Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Tough Shooting Night Too Much to Overcome

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats bucket seemed to have a lid on it for a good part of Monday evening. Fort Valley State's tough shooting night proved to be too much to overcome as Central State took away the 66-52 women's basketball victory.

After leading for all but the final moments of the first quarter, the Wildcats (1-7/1-1 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) were tied, 9-9. The Marauders (4-4/1-1 SIAC) took advantage of the home team going 7 for 34 in the middle two frames and they outscored it 38-21 over that time. FVSU bounced back to win the final quarter, 22-19, but it could get no closer than 11 points three times with the final time coming on an Alicia Franklin trey with 1:17 remaining to make it 61-50.

Franklin connected on five 3-pointers as part of her game-high 19-point effort to go with five rebounds and three steals. Nola Carter was the other lone Wildcat double-figure scorer with 10 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Nyah Dismukes chipped in eight points and two assists, while Torri Myers had seven points and 10 boards. Jalin Moye swatted four shots and grabbed six caroms.

Kenedi London led the visiting Marauders with 16 points off the bench, including 7 of 8 from the foul line. Chervelle Cox clutched 19 rebounds to go with 11 points.

FVSU downed only 17 of 67 from the floor (25.4%), but Central State was almost at the same pace (19 of 67). The Marauders outscored the Wildcats by 10 points from the foul line on 12 more attempts.

FVSU will now be off for over a week until it travels to Tennessee for a Saturday, Dec. 8, road game at Lee University. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
