Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Golden Tigers Outlast Wildcats Women’s Basketball

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The tide turned against the Wildcats at the wrong time Saturday afternoon. After taking a 10-point lead to the halftime, Fort Valley State saw host Tuskegee slowly chip away and outlast its opponent for the close victory, 51-49, in women's basketball.

Taking the lead four minutes into the contest and having an advantage of 13 points on two Alicia Franklin foul shots with 3:58 in the first half, the Wildcats (1-9/1-2 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) appeared to have control of the contest. The Golden Tigers (7-3/2-0 SIAC) proved that line of thinking wrong by pulling to within four points at the end of three frames and taking the lead with 5:48 remaining, 42-40. A Franklin banked in long trey retied the game at 49 with 29 tics left before Tuskegee's Jade Wilson dumped in an inside shot with 20 seconds. Nyah Dismukes' potential game-winning 3-pointer with four seconds was off and so went FVSU's win.

Franklin downed five treys in 12 attempts to lead FVSU with 17 points. Torri Myers added a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Wilson finished with top honors as she hit for 19 points to go with 10 rebounds in what turned out to be a Tuskegee victory.

The contest struggled all day getting into a rhythm as 57 fouls were issued and three players disqualified. Both teams also combined for under 27-percent from the field.

FVSU has Sunday off before it heads back to Alabama for a Monday night, Dec. 17, SIAC matchup at Miles College starting at 7 p.m. EST.
