Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Tigers Mid-First Half Run Overtakes Wildcats

FAIRFIELD, Ala. – Early Wildcats Monday night women's basketball success did not continue. Miles College owned the final minutes of both of the opening two quarters and reversed Fort Valley State's momentum for a 63-42 victory.

Tied at 4-4 midway through the opening quarter, Nola Carter made buckets around a Torri Myers trey for a Wildcats (1-10/1-3 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) 11-4 advantage. The Tigers (7-1/3-0 SIAC) regrouped for the next nine points in the final 3:09 of the first quarter and made it a 17-2 overall run covering 6:50 overall. FVSU pulled back within 10 points, 43-33, with 35 seconds left in the third 10-minutes, but it could get no closer the rest of the way.

Alicia Franklin, again, led the Wildcat charge with 17 points off three treys to go with six rebounds and a pair of assists. Carter made 5 of 8 attempts for 11 points.

Myers chipped in eight points, grabbed four rebounds and swiped two steals. Amiah Height clutched eight caroms to go with three points.

FVSU recorded another tough night from the floor at 26.4-percent (14 of 53). Miles outrebound its foe, 48-34.

Sakina Wynn and Taylor Terry led Miles with 15 and 12 points.

FVSU is now off for the Christmas holiday. The Wildcats return at home on New Year's Eve afternoon, Dec. 31, in a 1 p.m. game against the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen.
