FORT VALLEY, GA –
Jamaal Garror led all scorers with 23-points as the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Wildcats (12-13; 9-8) fell 76-68 to Albany State University (5-18; 5-10) Saturday night at the HPE Complex on FVSU's campus.
Garror added five rebounds, two steals and hit 6-of-10 field goals, 2-of-4 three-pointers, and made 9-12 free throws.
Jaylon McMillan followed with 21-points, two boards, two assists and hit 8-of-17 shots.
Walter Foster grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, 11-points and blocked two shots.
The Wildcats shots 40.7% (24-59) from the field, made 30.4% (7-of-23) of their shots from behind the arc and went 13-of-24 from the foul line for 54.2% shooting. ASU scored on 45.0% (27-60) of their baskets, 42.9% (9-21) three-pointers and 59.1% (13-22) in free throws.
Michael Green led the Rams with 16-points and Randy McClure had eight boards and 10-points while Rahdin Hughes and Jared Harrington added 15 and 12-points each.
ASU outrebounded the Wildcats 44-34 and forced FVSU into 12 turnovers while the Rams gained 22-points off turnovers. FVSU outscored ASU 32-30 in the paint and 24-19 on points from their bench.
FVSU's only lead came at the 19:02 mark in the first half while ASU led by as much as 20 in the second half with 16:50 on the clock.
Garror's layup started the scoring for the Wildcats, but ASU would go up by 10 three times and 19 at the 5:11 mark and another 19 with 14 seconds left to half. The Wildcats went to halftime down 19-38.
In the second half, ASU went up by 20 (43-23) with 16:50 to go, but Garror's three-pointer cut the score to 26-43. McMillan's three-pointer made it 43-49 with 11:36 left, then on free throws by Garror and McMillan the score was cut to 4 (48-52) with 9:27 remaining.
J. R. Bryant's three-pointer cut the lead to 1 (51-52) at the 8:57 mark. The Rams increased their lead back to six with 6:26 to go, then up to 10 (70-60) with 1:10 on the clock.
