FVSU Cross Country Opens Fall at VSU Border Clash

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- In the first action of the fall season, the Fort Valley State cross country teams took to the court at the VSU Border Clash on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats men were bunched together as they recorded a score of 236 for ninth place. On the women's side, FVSU ran three runners and did not have a team score. The University of Tampa prevailed over Flagler in both the men's and women's field in the team standings.

For the FVSU men, Kevis Shaw paced the team's effort with a time of 29:58.1 in 41st place. Keith Richards was two places back in 43rd (30:23.3), before the other three Wildcats - Dekwan Barnes (32:31.9), Jhavani Mezier (34:21.2) and Joshua Pierce (34:57.3) - ran across the finish in 49th, 51st and 52nd place in the 7.25k race.

Aryelle McDonald led the three Wildcats women with a time of 28:11.9 over the 5k course for 64th. Jamie Burden and April Rogers were one-tenth of a second apart in 66th (28:47.6) and 67th (28:47.7).
