Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Franklin Powers Wildcats Second-Half Surge Past Rams

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Alicia Franklin and the Wildcats could not be stopped once they took the lead in the final 20 minutes. Down 16 points at half, Franklin netted 24 of her career-high 35 points as Fort Valley State outscored rival Albany State in the final two periods and surged to an 80-69 women's basketball victory.

Franklin hit her first of six second-half treys five seconds in the third period, but it took the Wildcats (3-12/3-5 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) motor a little longer to full get going. Trailing 54-44 with 3:10 left in the third period, FVSU netted the final 11 points for a 55-54 edge heading to the fourth. Down by a point 63-62 with 4:02 left, the Wildcats, though, produced a second 11-straight points to take a 73-63 and went on for the win.

Franklin logged a new career-high with 35 points on 10 of 19 shooting, 8 of 15 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. The 5-3 guard also pulled down six rebounds. She bested her previous career-best of 31 points set last Feb. 3, 2017, against Paine College.

Freshman Torri Myers also set her new standard with her first career double-double of 20 points, including 12 of 14 from the foul line, and 12 rebounds.

Nyah Dismukes and Nola Carter chipped in seven points apiece, while Keaundra Cox added six.

Alexandria James finished with an Albany State high of 16, 14 in the first half.

Leading 21-16 after 10 minutes, the Rams outscored the Wildcats in the second frame, 23-12, off the strength of six triples.

FVSU will try to add another win to its record on Wednesday night, Jan. 16, when it plays at Auburn-Montgomery. Start time is set for 7 p.m. EST.
