Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Panthers Pull Away Late from Wildcats in Women’s Hoops

ATLANTA, Ga. – After a two possession game for the majority of the first 30 minutes, the Wildcats offense faltered in the final period. Clark Atlanta pulled away from Fort Valley State women's basketball team with a 15-3 run over a late five-minute time frame for the 69-53 Monday evening victory.

The Wildcats (3-14/3-6 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) trimmed their deficit to six points three times in the third frame with the last coming on a Torri Myers jumper to make it 42-36 at 5:10. Leading 51-44 in the final 60 seconds of the third, the Panthers (5-15/4-7 SIAC) netted the final bucket and added 13 of the first 16 tallies of the final quarter for the game difference.

Nola Carter made 5 of 11 field goals for 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds for FVSU's top honors. Myers contributed 10 points and seven boards. Alicia Franklin had a night of eight points, nine caroms, two assists and two steals.

Nailah Mitchell led all scorers with 19 points for Clark Atlanta.

Franklin started the game and gave the Wildcats the early 2-0 lead 13 seconds into the evening. The Panthers slipped in front and held the visitors to within a point four times and finished the first 10 minutes with a 17-16 margin.

Franklin and Nyah Dismukes put FVSU to within three points, 21-18 and 29-26, but the team was unable to regain the lead the rest of the night.

FVSU has Tuesday off, before it hosts SIAC member Miles College on Wednesday night, Jan. 23, in a non-conference meeting. It will be Faculty & Staff Appreciation at the HPE Arena for the 6 p.m. tip.
