Wildcats Have Enough, Prevail over Tigers

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats had the Monday night answer for the win. Jaylon McMillan's left-corner jumper with 1:35 remaining was enough to keep Fort Valley State in the lead and prevail over Benedict College men's basketball, 80-71.

FVSU (6-17/5-7 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) enjoyed a lead by as many as 15 points, 56-41, with 10:05 on the clock. Benedict (3-19/2-10 SIAC) did not go away and pulled to within six points twice, 62-56 and 65-59, before it made it a 70-67 contest at 1:54. After he hit the jumper, McMillan converted four free throws in a row and took away any final Tigers momentum.

McMillan finished with a FVSU-best 21 points to go with three rebounds and three assists. Shawn Foxbrennen made 7 of 10 attempts and both his 3-point tries for 18 points and grabbed five boards.

K'Viontae Williams added 13 points. Leon Perry handed out a season-best nine assists and Brenton
Cliette Jordan swiped the boards to the tune of 12 rebounds, 11 defensive.

Romello Jones had 20 points with four 3-pointers to lead the Tigers effort.

The Wildcats edged into the first half lead and took a nine-point margin, 33-24, into the intermission. The Tigers scored the game's first four points in the first 41 seconds for their only advantage all evening.

FVSU moves on to its Homecoming game on Groundhog Day Saturday, Feb. 2, against Clark Atlanta in the HPE Arena.
