Foxbrennen Voted 2019-20 SIAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Second Team, Wildcats Slated 6th in East

ATLANTA, Ga. –
 Following their Midnight Madness event kicking off the official season practices late yesterday night, the Wildcats view their league work in front of them. Senior Shawn Foxbrennen was voted to the 2019-20 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team, while the Fort Valley State men's basketball team is slated sixth in the Preseason Eastern Division rankings.
 
After a breakthrough season last year, Foxbrennen was picked as one of the five players to the All-SIAC Second Team voted upon by the league's head coach and sports information directors. Morehouse College's Robert Andrews received the SIAC Preseason Player of the Year acclaim, while Romaine Thomas from Clark Atlanta is the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honoree. Rounding out the First Team with Andrews of Morehouse, Devin Booker and Tyrone Banks of LeMoyne-Owen and Tuskegee's Myles Thomas and James Eads.
 
Behind Andrews, Morehouse was picked as the SIAC Eastern Division favorite ahead of Albany State, Clark Atlanta, Savannah State, Benedict College, FVSU and Paine College in order. Defending SIAC Champion Miles College gained the SIAC Western Division top spot ahead of LeMoyne-Owen, Lane College, Kentucky State, Central State, Tuskegee and Spring Hill.

In his first season with the Wildcats, Foxbrennen was the team's leading rebounder (6.8 rpg) and second-leading scorer (13.1 ppg). The Miami, Fla., product also led FVSU in 3-point field goal percentage (.434), while he was second in 3-point field goals made (36), field-goal percentage (.481) and field goals made (138), while third in free throw percentage (.705). The forward pumped in a season-high 32 points at Valdosta State and posted eight games with 18-plus points. He recorded four double-doubles and finished the year with a 22-point day against Tuskegee in the SIAC Tournament First Rounds. Foxbrennen totaled 367 points, 190 rebounds, 28 assists, and 12 blocked shots in 28 contests.
 
FVSU and second-year head coach Mark Sherrill opens their 2019-20 campaign with an exhibition game at Duke University on Wednesday night, Oct. 30, starting at 7 p.m. The team's regular season tips the following week at Valdosta State on Friday, Nov. 8, in a 7 p.m. contest.
