Wildcats Push Tigers to Limit, Fall Just Shy

COLUMBIA, S.C. – After capturing the middle set momentum, the Wildcats could not sustain it in the end. Fort Valley State pushed Benedict College took sets two and three, but it fell just shy of completing the volleyball upset, 3-2, on Thursday night.

The Tigers (13-10/6-6 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) claimed the opening set 25-20. The Wildcats (3-12/2-11 SIAC East) outlasted the home team, 26-24, to tie the match and keep the momentum rolling with a 25-22 third set for a 2-1 lead. Benedict, though, regained its footing and turned up the heat with a 25-16 fourth set, before it ended the match on a 15-6 match-deciding final set.
