10/8/2019 6:10:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. – In one of the biggest NCAA Division II Region 2 upsets of the season, two of the Wildcats key cogs received awards for their efforts. Fort Valley State's quarterback Slade Jarman repeated as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row, while kicker/punter Eli Mashburn grabbed the SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

The two Wildcats (3-2) helped their team upset Florida Tech, 33-29, on the road last Saturday night. Between the two FVSU players, they accounted for the four touchdowns and all nine kicking points in the comeback win.

Jarman donned the SIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after he posted a night of 299 yards of total offense with one passing and three rushing touchdowns against the Panthers. The senior from Pensacola, Fla., guided the Wildcats offense to 398 yards of total offense, including a season-high 144 yards rushing, 26 first downs and 33 points.

The Wildcat signal-caller connected on 22 of 38 pass attempts for 254 yards and one touchdown with one interception. He rushed 13 times for 45 yards and three rushing scores of 10, 3 and 3 yards, including the final two touchdowns and game-winning points in the fourth quarter.

Handling all kicking duties, Mashburn showed his continued progress in his second year on Saturday night. Against Florida Tech, the Warner Robins, Ga., product scored nine points on the night with three of four point after tries and booted both field goal attempts (24 and 25 yards). The sophomore punted four times for an average of 41.5 yards with one inside the 20-yardline and a long of 51 yards. His seven kick-offs covered 53.3 yards on the average and made one touchdown-saving solo tackle in the game.

On the season, Jarman leads the SIAC with 1,243 yards passing (248.6 yards per game) over the five half of the season. He has 11 touchdowns to four interceptions with a 132.08 pass efficiency rating and a 59.6 completion percentage (109 of 183). Jarman has 73 rushing yards on 52 carries with four scores.

Mashburn has made four of his seven field goal attempts with a long of 45 yards and 16 of 19 extra points. In his punting duties, Eli averages 38.5 yards over 25 punt attempts with eight landing inside the opponents' 20-yardline and three over 50 yards.

Jarman, Mashburn and the Wildcats embark on their longest trip of the year in a SIAC Crossover affair at Central State on Saturday afternoon, October 12. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
