FORT VALLEY, Ga. – It was one of those nights the Wildcats wanted an extra few minutes put on the clock. After searching for the momentum to return for most all of the second half, Fort Valley State ran out of time in its final minutes push as Georgia Southwestern edged a 72-68 men's basketball victory.

An offensive putback by D'Angelo Strickland at 6:31 in the first half, the Wildcats (1-2) started to build a lead, 27-20. The Hurricanes (1-0) reversed the deficit completely eight minutes into the second half and added on to the advantage to as many as 11 points twice, 56-45 and 63-52. FVSU put together its final surge with two minutes left and turned a 10-point game into a 2-point difference twice in the final 12 seconds, but four final free throws sealed the GSW win.

K'Viontae Williams hit three treys as part of his home team-best 17-point night to go with six rebounds and two assists. Zachary Boggs chipped in 13 points off the bench, while Tristan Davis added 10 points and eight assists. D'Angelo Strickland rounded out the contributors with nine points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

Jamari Dean recorded a double-double for the Hurricanes of 19 points and 15 rebounds.

FVSU treks to North Carolina for the CIAA/SIAC Challenge starting in an 8 p.m. Friday night, Nov. 15, game against host Winston-Salem State.
