COLUMBUS, Ga. – Following a heartbreaking buzzer shot beat them Friday evening, the Wildcats aimed for a better Saturday result. Fort Valley State's first 3-pointer was its lone lead of the day as hot-shooting Columbus State went on a 15-2 run and kept pouring in the points to the tune of a 96-49 women's basketball final.

After her career-best 26-point game the previous night, Torri Myers downed a triple for the Wildcats (2-3) first bucket and a 3-2 lead only 49 seconds in the game. The Cougars warmed up in a big way with the next eight points and 15-2 run overall until they held a 24-8 lead after the first 10 minutes. The home team outscored FVSU by another 15 points in the second stanza and coasted the second half.

Nikki Culbreath finished as the Wildcats lone double-digit scorer at 13 points, including three treys, and seven rebounds. Myers added seven points and five boards, while Nola Carter had six points, four rebounds and two assists.

FVSU made only 6 of 39 attempts in the first half, but it kept at the off pace of 16 of 70 for the game (22.9%). Columbus State hit 23 of 40 tries in the opening 20 minutes and dropped 11 of 22 from long-range for the contest.

Leeaysia Williamson of the Cougars led all scorers with 26 points.

FVSU will stay on the road with a second meeting already with West Georgia in Carrolton on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
