Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wolves Take Second Half, Split Series with Wildcats

CARROLTON, Ga. – In a game of runs, the Wildcats needed one more Tuesday night. Tied at the half, West Georgia opened the second half with 12 of the first 16 points and Fort Valley State had a tough shooting half in the 81-69 women's basketball final.

The Wildcats (2-4) ran off 14-straight points midway through the first quarter and enjoyed a lead of as many as 12 points. The Wolves (3-1) even the contest by halftime and went ahead by a dozen, 52-40, just over four minutes into the third frame and did not allow the visitors any closer than five points heading into the final quarter.

With the win, West Georgia picked up the season series split with FVSU. The Wildcats claimed a 76-68 win the previous Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Fort Valley.

Sophomore Torri Myers paced the FVSU attack with 17 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals. Taziha Fanning added 10 points, seven boards and four steals as the other double-figure scorer.

Alicia Franklin and Nola Carter both chipped in eight points and two assists. Jada Sleet contributed seven points off the bench.

After making a 37-percent clip in the opening 20 minutes, the Wildcats saw only 9 of 33 attempts fall in half number two. Over the same time, West Georgia increased its field goal percentage to over 58% (12 of 25).

Ashley Lee of the Wolves led all players with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

FVSU will complete its week with a Friday night, Nov. 22, home game against Wesleyan College. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
