Wildcats’ Carter Named SIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

12/10/2019 3:00:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. – In a season where the team is a win shy of equaling last year's total, one senior Wildcat received a weekly honor. Fort Valley State's Nola Carter was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The senior from Jacksonville, Fla., averaged 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game as she helped the Wildcats go 1-1 last week, including a 68-55 victory over SIAC West member Central State. Carter and the FVSU team are 5-5 on the year in their week off for fall finals and one win already from matching the six season wins from a season ago.

The FVSU forward connected on 6-of-11 attempts from the field for 14 points go with eight rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals against Central State.

Carter tried to will by herself the Wildcats to a non-conference Saturday win, but a big Auburn University at Montgomery second half prevented it. Nola pumped in her second highest game total of her career of 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including a career-best two 3-pointers, and all six free throws. Carter completed her line with eight rebounds, four assists and a steals against the Warhawks.

After this finals week, FVSU returns to action on the road next Monday night, Dec. 16, in a 6:30 p.m. EST contest at the SIAC West's Tuskegee.
