Wildcats’ Harris Selected as a Cliff Harris Award Finalist

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – After one of the best defensive seasons recorded in The Valley in recent seasons, the Wildcat defensive lineman is being recognized nationally. Fort Valley State's Demetrius Harris was announced as one of the finalists for the seventh annual CLIFF HARRIS AWARD as the nation's top small college defensive player of NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA Levels by the Little Rock Touchdown Club and Wright Lindsey Jennings.

An overall winner will be announced on December 27th and honored at the Little Rock Touchdown Club's annual awards banquet on January 9, 2020 with special guest two time Heisman Trophy Winner Archie Griffin. The winner will receive the $3,000 Cliff Harris Award trophy presented by Cliff Harris. In addition to the overall winner, the top vote getters from each division will also be announced. Harris is the reigning Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-SIAC First Team member. The D2CCA All-Region 2 Second Team member led the Wildcats defense this fall. The redshirt junior led NCAA Division II in sacks (1.35 per game) and fifth in tackles for loss (2.0 per game). Harris of Decatur, Ga., finished the year with 43 tackles, 25 solo, to go with his 19.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, including a touchdown of one against Morehouse College.
