Warhawks Bust out of Halftime, Overtake Wildcats

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats finished the first half strong and were in position for a successful Saturday afternoon. Auburn University-Montgomery turned the tide by scoring 16 of the first 18 points of the second half and overtook Fort Valley State, 73-57, in women's basketball.
 
Trailing 22-21 halfway through the second frame, FVSU (5-5) finished the half on a 10-2 run and went to half with a 31-24 advantage. The Warhawks (6-3) downed a 3-pointer 11 seconds into the third quarter and turned the seven-point deficit into a 10-point lead, 43-33, 4:20 into the period. The Wildcats pulled to within eight points, 43-35, on a Taziha Fanning layup, but would get no closer again over the final 15 minutes of play.
 
Nola Carter was the home bright spot with her biggest day of the semester with 24 points on 8-of-17 from the floor, including a pair of treys, to go with eight rebounds and four assists.
 
Nikki Culbreath added eight points and Fanning seven. Alexia Green was a perfect 3-of-3 for the day from the floor for six points, while she pulled in four rebounds and blocked two shots.
 
Jordan Brewster netted 15 of her team-high 17 points, including all four of her 3-pointers, in the second half to lead the AUM comeback.
 
FVSU has next week off for finals, before it travels to Tuskegee for a 6:30 p.m. contest on Monday, Dec. 16.
