FVSU Claws Past West Alabama in OT

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats proved they are a tough squad in their home arena. Alex Booker's first 3-pointer of the season with 54.2 second left in overtime put Fort Valley State in the lead for good as it clawed past West Alabama, 71-66.

With the shot clock winding down,
Torri Myers found Booker at the top of the key and she let the ball fly through the net for a 67-66 lead as part of the Wildcats (6-19) scoring the game's final seven points. The Tigers (11-15) missed a pair of inside buckets on the next trip and Alicia Franklin pulled down the first of her two defensive boards in the final 29 seconds. Myers and Franklin iced the win with a pair of foul shots apiece in the last 19 ticks.

Booker made 7 of 9 attempts and her lone 3-point
try for a season-best 15 points to lead FVSU. Nola Carter added 15 points of her own and pulled down five rebounds. Franklin hit a key triple at the end of regulation as part of her 13-point, eight-rebound and four-assist night.

Nyah Dismukes chipped in 10 points on four of six
shooting with four assists. Myers had six points, eight caroms and four helpers off the bench.

J'Nyiah Daniels pumped in a game-best 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting, including four treys.

Down by as many as 12 points, 47-35, with 8:32 left in the game, West Alabama stormed back six minutes later behind Daniels outside shooting for a 54-53 edge at 2:11 on the clock. After a Tigers
layup made it 56-53 with 38 seconds to go, Franklin took the ball down and promptly drained a top-of-the key 3-pointer to tie the contest at 56 with 31.4 seconds left. West Alabama was stifled into a shot clock violation, before a lob into Myers fell just off the mark at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

After trailing 10-9 in the first 10 minutes and a 16-10 deficit midway through the second frame, the Wildcats ran off seven-straight points capped by two Jalin Moye free throws for a 17-16 edge. Booker banked home a
layup in the final first-half seconds for a 25-22 intermission score.

The Wildcats controlled most of
third period for a margin of 12 points and took a 10-point edge into the fourth quarter, 41-31.

FVSU
moves on to the post season and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament next week. The Wildcats face the Thorobreds of Kentucky State in a First Round contest on Monday afternoon, Feb. 25, game at 3:15 p.m.
