FVSU’s McMillan Shoots Way to All-SIAC Second Team

ATLANTA, Ga. – In a season where he was the league's top-point scorer and top 3-point threat, Jaylon McMillan of Fort Valley State shot his way to the All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team presented by the league on Sunday evening.
 
After starting the year as an All-SIAC Preseason Team pick, the senior Wildcat went on
for his best year. McMillan completed the regular season as the Conference's leading point scorer at 505 points, 3-pointers made (87) and 3-pointers made per game (3.1) and third-leading scorer at 18.0 ppg.
 
SIAC East regular season champion Morehouse College cleaned up on the overall awards – Omar Alston as Player of the Year, Robert Andrews as Newcomer of the Year and head coach Grady Brewer as Coach of the Year. Lane College's Kendarius Ash grabbed the Defensive Player of the Year and LeMoyne-Owen's Devin Booker received the Freshman of the Year honor.

McMillan of Stone Mountain, Ga., was the latest 1,000 career-point FVSU scorer as he surpassed the milestone on Jan. 7 where the fourth-year player pumped in a career-best 40 points, including 9 of 11 treys. He has 1,197 points in 107 points for a career 11.2-point average and more than doubled his career assists (131) with 67 this season.
 
The senior scored 19-plus points 16 games this season with a 30-point night at Clark Atlanta to go with his personal 40-point best at Spring Hill. The shooting guard downed at least three treys in 16 contests and nine times drained five-plus from long range.
 
McMillan and the Wildcats begin their
postseason on Monday afternoon. FVSU opens the SIAC men's basketball tournament in the opening game against Tuskegee University in Birmingham (Ala.)'s CrossPlex arena. Tip time is set for 1 p.m. CST/2 p.m. EST.
