Wildcats Take Down Barons in Four

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Showing much improvement in the third match, Fort Valley State took down Brewton-Parker in four sets for its first volleyball victory of the 2019 season.
 
The Wildcats (1-2) saw a one-point lead, but the Barons (0-9) netted the final four points for the 25-23 first set win. FVSU, though, controlled the rest of the night as it swept through the next three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-15.
 
Nia Bell provided the big FVSU offensive swings with 16 kills to go with 11 digs, three blocks and a pair of aces. As a team, the Wildcats laced 10 total aces as Jaelyn Franklin accounted for six of the aces, while she dug 11 attacks, and was in on two blocks.
 
India King added eight kills with only one error in 18 attacks for a .389 hitting percentage. Ceirra Wright hit seven kills and totaled six blocks. Rita Davis handed out 29 assists and led in digs with 16. Ashley Simmons-Blair contributed 10 digs and two aces.
 
After hitting only .030 in the opening set, the FVSU attack picked up and so did its winning results. The Wildcats improved to .312, .125 and .281 in sets two, three and four.

Mikayla Lovelace led the Barons with nine kills.
 
FVSU has a week off before it hosting Savannah State next Friday, Sept. 20, in a 7 p.m. match.
