Wildcats Take Opening Set, But Knights Prevail in Volleyball Opener

Box Score MACON, Ga. – The Friday afternoon matinee started out well, but it did not last. Fort Valley State captured the opening set, but Middle Georgia State bounced back for the next three sets for the 3-1 win.
 
The Wildcats (0-1) outlasted the home team in set one by a 25-23 margin. The Knights (2-2) came back with sets two and three wins by scores of 25-14 and 25-13. Middle Georgia State completed its surge by holding off FVSU, 25-20, in the fourth set.
 
India King paced the Wildcats with 11 kills, seven digs and two block assists. Nia Bell downed nine kills to go with six digs and three total blocks.
 
Rita Davis handed out 19 assists to go with 14 digs for a double-double. Jaelyn Franklin and Ashley Simmons-Blair led the defensive effort with 20 and 14 digs.
 
Cara MacFarland had top honors for the Knights with 15 kills.
 
FVSU makes its 2019 home debut and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against Albany State on Tuesday night (Sept. 10). First serve set for 6 p.m.
