Wildcats Host New Football Coach Flowers Welcome Press Conference

1/10/2020 8:01:00 PM

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats faithful was ready to take to the gridiron themselves as they listened on Friday afternoon. Fort Valley State hosted its new head football coach Maurice Flowers in a welcome press conference.

FVSU Interim Director of Athletics Anthony Holloman introduced Flowers in front of a full Student Amenities Banquet Room of supporters and media.

"There is no reason for a rebuild here (after the Wildcats come off a 6-4 season and one-game away from a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division title), but we can continue to be successful right away. We will play fast and be physical," said Flowers. "I intend for us to win our 14th SIAC Championship, qualify for the NCAA (Division II) playoffs and win a national title."

The new Wildcats coach left no doubt on his expectations as he continued, "We will make all former players proud by playing at a high level. This program will have high expectations and it is a program that's hungry."

The pregame-like pep talk finished as it turned to the alumni and supporters.

"I want to talk to you, I want to hear from you and I want your support," stressed Flowers. "We will all work together to build a program, which is consistently ranked in the top 25 on a regular basis."

Flowers started his first official day on campus this past Monday, Jan. 2, and will welcome all the returning Wildcats next week and start to put his 2020 vision in motion.
