Wildcats Control Final Three Frames to Secure Win over Lions, Hit Double-Digit Victories

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Welcome back to the land of double-digit wins Wildcats. Fort Valley State controlled the final three quarters and secured a 68-58 women's basketball victory at Paine College.
 
The Lions (6-12/5-6 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) ran out to a 23-13 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play. The Wildcats (10-10/6-5 SIAC East) cut the margin to two points, 32-30, by half and continued by winning the final two quarters, 38-26, for the win.
 
The FVSU win pushed its season mark back to .500 at 10-10 and puts it back in double-digit season wins for the first time since going 10-17 in 2016-17.
 
With her team-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, Nola Carter joined senior teammate Alicia Franklin in the 1,000-point club. Carter needed three points going into the day and now has 1,016 points as she also had six rebounds, four assists and two steals on Saturday.
 
Torri Myers manned the inside by converting 7-for-12 shots for 16 points and totaled nine rebounds and three steals. Guards Jada Sleet and Nikki Culbreath added 11 and 10 points.
 
Keondra Archie paced the home team Paine with 17 points and six caroms.
 
FVSU held Paine to only eight of 25 from the field in the second half, while it made 13 of 28 tries in the final 20 minutes, including 3-of-5 from long-range.
 
The Wildcats have Sunday off before they travel to face the SIAC's top team, Tigers of Benedict College, on Monday night (Feb. 3) starting at 5:30 p.m.
