Wildcats Fall in Close Home Men’s Basketball Finale to Maroon Tigers

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats took the lead five minutes into the second stanza, but they could not hold on to it. Fort Valley State fell in the close home men's basketball season finale to Morehouse College, 65-60, Thursday evening.

The Wildcats (7-21/5-14 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) erased a seven-point halftime deficit in the first five minutes of the second half and took the lead, 40-39, on a Shawn Foxbrennen trey from the right wing. The home slim advantage lasted only 1:05 as the Maroon Tigers (14-12/11-8 SIAC East) netted the next seven points and had enough to hold off the home team in the final seconds.

In his final home game in The Valley, K'Viontae Willams connected on 11-of-19 shots for a game-best 26-point evening to go with five rebounds and two assists. The other two honored FVSU seniors, Foxbrennen and Brenton Cliette Jordan combined for 17 points and 14 rebounds. Foxbrennen was the lone other double-figure scorer with 11 points and five boards, while Cliette Jordan grabbed nine rebounds and had six points.

Point guard Michael Olmert drove his way to a team-high 15 points to lead Morehouse.

FVSU cleaned the glass, 42-33, but it committed seven more turnovers on the night, 17-10.

FVSU will move on to the SIAC Tournament next week in Rock Hill, S.C. The Wildcats enter as the No. 6 seed of the East Division and faces the No. 3 seed Central State of the West Division on Tuesday morning, March 3, at 10 a.m.
