Wildcats Run Out to Fast Start, But Fall in 4 to Panthers

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In a growth year as a program, the Wildcats have shown a great deal with their young team this fall as the season finale showed. In fact, Fort Valley State ran out and took the first set Thursday night, but Clark Atlanta bounced back and swept the next three for the 3-1 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball match.

In a tight opening set, FVSU (8-17) trailed 18-17 before it rattled off the next six points for a 23-18 edge on the way to a 25-19 win capped by a Raven Edwards kill for the final point. The Panthers turned a 17-16 deficit into a 23-17 lead and took set two, 25-19. Clark Atlanta claimed the pivotal third set by taking the final three points to squeak out the 25-23 win. Leading 17-15 in the fourth set, CAU's Kia Thomas powered four kills of the final eight-straight points to end the match with a 25-15 final.

Edwards posted a solid night with 13 kills for the Wildcats. Both Bianca Haslett and Destinee Jackson added six winners apiece with Jackson having 13 digs and Haslett five. Morgan Hebert contributed 29 assists to go with five kills, 13 digs and a block. Syraih Wint had three aces, three blocks and three kills, while Naydiah Kornegay dug 12 attacks and laced three aces.

Thomas led all hitters with 21 kills, only two errors in 35 attacks for a .543 attack percentage for Clark Atlanta.
