Early Georgia Southwestern Run Decides Contest Over FVSU Women’s Basketball

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Wildcats rough start was trouble for them Tuesday evening. Georgia Southwestern ran out of the gate and had it decide the women's basketball game, 87-50, over Fort Valley State.
 
After a Kyndall Thomas jumper in the lane pulled the Wildcats (0-2) to within a point, 3-2, the Hurricanes (5-0) went on a four-minute, 15-2, run, and jumped out to an 18-4 advantage. Starting the second frame, FVSU netted the opening five points off a Ja'Meshia Williams trey and an Amiya Allen jumper to cut the margin to nine points, 25-16, and force a home timeout at 8:37. Georgia Southwestern, though, came out and registered the next two buckets and never led by less than double figures over the final 26:25.
 
Allen led the FVSU attack with 11 points, including 7 for 7 from the foul line, and pulled down nine rebounds. Torri Myers chipped in nine points go to with her five boards and two steals. Williams downed a pair of 3-pointers as part of her eight-point night.
 
The Wildcats won the rebound battle, 53-47, but they committed 35 turnovers.
 
Jolicia Williams posted top honors with 20 points for the Hurricanes.
 
FVSU has its home opener this Saturday, Nov. 27, in a 1 p.m. home game against Kentucky State.
