FVSU Cold Spell Results in Game Slipping Away to Kentucky State

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats had their game going full steam ahead with nine minutes left on Saturday afternoon when everything changed. Fort Valley State went ice cold from the field and Kentucky State chipped away at a double-digit deficit until taking the 76-72 men's basketball decision.
 
Leading by a single point with 11:43 left in the game, FVSU (0-6) went on a 12-1 run over the next three minutes capped by a K.J. Doucet dunk through the lane. At 8:10 showing, Doucet nailed a 3-pointer for the game's largest lead of 13 points, 70-57, but it would be FVSU's final bucket for the last eight minutes until one at the final buzzer. Kentucky State (3-1) took advantage and chipped away before tying the contest, 70-70, with 1:43 left and taking the lead with two foul shots at 29 seconds on the way to the win.
 
For the second game in a row, Doucet hit for 22 points for the Wildcats on 9 of 16 shooting with a pair of triples. Davon Cottle added 10 points off the bench, while Pierre Mitchell contributed nine points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Jamal Reynolds finished with eight points.
 
Kong Kong paced Kentucky State with 18 points.
 
FVSU returns home on Monday night, Nov. 29, when Central State comes to town in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
