Badgers Claw Out Tight Overtime Win over Wildcats

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats fell just shy Thursday night of making it three-straight victories. Despite tying the game with 55 seconds and scoring first in overtime, Fort Valley State saw Spring Hill College claw out a tight women's basketball win, 70-66.
 
Trailing 59-54 with 3:23 left in regulation, the Wildcats (3-5/2-2 SIAC East) netted a trio of free throws and a Torri Myers putback with 55 second to force overtime, 59-59. Myers added a pair of free throws 48 seconds in the extra period, but the Badgers (3-7/2-2 SIAC West) scored the next four points and had just enough to hold on in the final 41 seconds.
 
Myers guided the FVSU effort with 14 points on 5 for 11 from the field to go with 13 rebounds. Nikki Culbreath added 12 tallies from the backcourt and six steals. Amiya Allen netted 11 points off the bench, while Nyah Dismukes handed out six assists. Jah'ne Brown had seven points and nine boards.
 
Tyashia Bostick led all scorers with 22 points on the night for Spring Hill.
 
FVSU went out to an early seven-point advantage, 12-5, with 4:53 in the first period on a pair of Culbreath foul shots. The home margin increased to eight, 33-25, with 1:17 in the first half, but the Badgers registered six points in the final minute to cut it to a 33-31 contest.
 
The Wildcats pushed their lead back to seven, 41-34, only 2:52 into the second half. Spring Hill, again, answered with the next seven points and it outscored FVSU, 16-4, the rest of the frame for a 50-45 lead.
 
FVSU wraps up its 2021 part of the schedule with a Saturday afternoon, Dec. 18, home game versus Tuskegee. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
