Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Second-Half Charge Not Enough, Fall to Golden Tigers

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats turned the jets out of halftime, but they couldn't rebound entirely to flip the women's basketball game. Fort Valley State tried to rebound from a tough second quarter, but its charge was not enough as Tuskegee held on for the 79-66 decision.

After the Wildcats (3-6/2-3 SIAC East) led for the final four minutes of the first frame and held an 18-14 lead, the Golden Tigers (8-2/4-1 SIAC West) ran off the first 10 points of the second quarter and outscored their host, 33-11, in the period. FVSU cut the margin in half by the end of the third quarter, 59-50, and again to the nine-point difference, 63-54, 1:47 into the final period, but it could get no closer.

Diamond Jones came off the bench to hit 7 of 16 field goals and 5 of 6 from the foul line for a team-best 19 points to go with five assists and three steals. Jah'ne Brown added 14 points on 6 of 13 shots and six rebounds. Torri Myers chipped in 11 tallies, six boards and five steals.

Jureyia Willis connected for 24 points for Tuskegee to lead all scorers.

FVSU will now be off until it plays at LeMoyne-Owen College in a Tuesday, Jan. 3 contest. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. EST.
