Clark Atlanta Outlasts Short-Handed FVSU

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The new Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference CoVid policy was put into action by the Wildcats Saturday afternoon. With only the minimum seven players dressed, Fort Valley State hung tough the entire women's basketball game, but it was outlasted by Clark Atlanta, 76-67.
 
After trailing by seven at half, the Wildcats (3-7/2-4 SIAC East) battled back on a 9-0 spurt to edge ahead, 46-44, on an Angel Williams inside jumper at 5:24 left in the third frame. On a Diamond Jones driving layup, FVSU led by three, 51-48, but the Panthers (4-10/4-2 SIAC East) netted the final nine of 12 points for a 57-54 lead after 30 minutes. The visitors continued their run with a 10-2 run in the opening 4:20 of the final period and rode it to victory.
 
Jones paced the short-handed Wildcats with 24 points on 7 of 19 shooting to go with six rebounds and four assists. Williams posted her season-best with 19 points on 8 of 16 from the floor and seven caroms. Ja'Meshia Williams added 13 tallies and six assists, while Amiya Allen chipped in 17 rebounds and six points. Jamera Bean had five points, seven rebounds and three assists.
 
FVSU has one day off until it plays at LeMoyne-Owen College on Monday, Jan. 10, in a 6:30 p.m. EST tip.
