Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Magicians Strong Third Quarter Enough to Overtake Wildcats

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In the first road swing of 2022, the Wildcats third 10-minute period proved to be a tough one. LeMoyne-Owen broke open a two possession game in the third quarter on its way to a 73-53 women's basketball win over Fort Valley State Monday evening.

After winning the second quarter, 17-15, the still short-handed Wildcats (3-8/2-5 SIAC East) pulled to with five points, 37-32 at half. The Magicians (4-7/1-1 SIAC West) doubled the visitors output, 12-6, to gain separation and extended the margin to 57-38 at the end of 30 minutes. The seven-player FVSU lineup wasn't able to make a dent in the final quarter of the contest.

Center Angel Williams grabbed top FVSU honors with 18 points on 8 of 15 field goals and five rebounds. Diamond Jones added 12 points, four steals and two assists. While Jamera Bean chipped in a season-high 10 points, including a pair of treys, off the bench.

Amil Mitchell led all scorers for LeMoyne-Owen with 20 points. The home team won the rebound battle, 48-26.

FVSU moves on to Fairfield, Ala., for a Wednesday evening, Jan. 12, contest at Miles College. Tip is 6:30 p.m. EST.
