FVSU Battles Tough Against Miles, Falls in Close Final

Box Score FAIRFIELD, Ala. – For the third game in a row, the seven-player Wildcats put up a valiant effort playing against a full roster foe. Fort Valley State battled tough, but fell in a close women's basketball final against Miles College, 71-67.
 
After leading by as many as six points in the first period, the Wildcats (3-9/2-6 SIAC East) trailed by only a single point, 38-37, at intermission. Miles College (10-2/4-2 SIAC West) logged a 10-0 run in the early part of the third quarter to open a double-figure advantage, 48-39. Down 70=56 with 2:11 left in the contest, FVSU rallied with the next nine tallies and 11 of the final 12 points, but it ran out of time to complete the comeback.
 
Angel Williams poured in 14 first-quarter points and made 11 of 18 field goals for a Wildcats-best 24 points to go with 13 rebounds. Ja'Nya Ferguson added her own double-double of 11 points and 11 boards. Diamond Jones downed 13 points on 5 for 9 attempts and handed out three assists. Amiya Allen rounded out the effort with 10 points and four rebounds.
 
The Wildcats team connected on 24 of 48 field goal tries, but they committed 27 turnovers.
 
Camryn London led the home Golden Bears with 20 points.
 
FVSU returns home for a Saturday afternoon, Jan. 15, 1 p.m. tip versus Savannah State.
