Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Use Balance and Board Work, Prevail Over Yellow Jackets

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In a telling performance, the Wildcats registered their third win of the 2021 campaign on Saturday afternoon. Fort Valley State used a balanced attack with double-figure scorers and strong board work to prevail over Allen University women's basketball, 74-51.

Tied at 10 six minutes into the contest, FVSU (3-4) netted the next seven points and never gave up the lead the rest of the contest. The Wildcats doubled up the visiting Yellow Jackets (2-8) by half, 34-17, and saw their lead dip under 10 for only 23 seconds in the second half where Diamond Jones and Kyla McIntosh back-to-back 3-pointers closed the door.

Jones downed 5-of-10 from long range and 6-of-12 overall for 19 points to go with seven assists and six steals. Forward Torri Myers posted her career-high with 19 rebounds, 12 on the offensive side, while she registered 15 points and six steals of her own.

Allen received 17 points from Jayka Jackson for its top performer.

Jackson did give Allen the momentum heading to the final period with a half court 3-pointer to cut the difference to 39-29. FVSU, though allowed it to get no closer than the 10 points the rest of the way before it truly sealed the win in the final three minutes.

FVSU has a day off before it travels for a 5:30 p.m. contest on Monday night, Feb. 22, at Savannah State.
