Coach Flowers Discusses FVSU Gridiron Win Over Erskine

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – With the two 2021 spring games in the books, the Wildcats can take a perfect result to the fall. Fort Valley State head coach Maurice Flowers addressed the road win at Erskine College last weekend and the overall spring progress.
 
In the game, FVSU scored the contest's opening 17 points, but it did not pull away until scoring three times in 2:30 off the clock in the early third quarter to turn a 10-point margin to a 38-7 advantage.
 
Wildcats highlights from the game:
  • Offense amassed 503 yards of total offense
  • Offense rushed for its highest total in recent seasons with 299 yards on 51 carries
  • RB Kentrelle Williams posted 142 yards on 22 carries and 2 TDs of 4 and 7 yards
  • RB Marlon Fleming ran for at least 80 yards for second game in a row on 10 carries and a 34-yard TD
  • WR Shemar Bridges pulled in 6 passes for 143 yards and a 53-yard TD
  • QB Tyrell Jackson threw for 2 TDs and no inceptions for 2nd game in a row (11 of 23 for 204 yds)
  • K Andre Labat hit a 45-yd FG and was 6 of 6 on extra point attempts
  • FVSU Defense forced 4 turnovers – 2 fumbles and 2 interceptions
  • CB Deon Andrews led team with 9 tackles to go with 1 tackles for loss and a pass breakup
  • Nathaniel Freeney, Tyson Latimore and Dametri Hill sacked the Erskine QB
  • Zach Anderson, Latimore and Patrick Fulton forced fumbles
  • D.J. Cone and Keon Brogan grabbed the interceptions
