9/16/2021 11:35:00 PM

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – It will be exactly 700 days since the Wildcats have played a home football! The wait comes to an end on Saturday afternoon when Fort Valley State welcomes SIAC West member Lane College to town!
With the Wildcat Stadium construction finishing this week, the first home glimpse of the 2021 Wildcats will be 5.5  miles up the road at Peach County High School's Trojan Stadium. The game, though, will be the Saturday's SIAC feature game on ESPN+ for the 2 p.m. ET kick-off.

Flowers Set for 1st Home Game as FVSU Coach
Just like his team has not been home in over two years, second-year head coach Maurice Flowers gets to play "at home" for the first time since his hiring announcement 635 days ago on Dec. 23, 2019.
Over his first four games at the helm, Flowers has directed the Wildcats in four different states of Georgia and South Carolina in the spring and now Alabama and Florida the past two weeks, all on the road. The Wildcats are 3-1 in those first four games and 3-0 versus NCAA DII foes.

Wildcats Seek First Home Opening Win in Last 4 Attempts
Home openers have not been kind to FVSU in recent years. The Wildcats have dropped their last three home openers over the 2017-19 campaigns. The last FVSU home opener where it came away with a victory happened on Sept. 17, 2016 against Clark Atlanta in a 37-31 decided in 3OTs.

FVSU Holds Big Advantage in Lane Series
With the highest winning percentage of any of the 10 oponents this season, FVSU holds a big advantage in the all-time series against Lane College.
Over the first 34 meetings, the Wildcats have an impressive 31-2-1 lead for a .926 winning percentage over those contests.
Saturday will be the first meeting of the two SIAC members since Oct. 14, 2017 at Wildcat Stadium of a FVSU 37-14 win.
The Dragons did win the season prior in 2016 in Jackson, Tenn., by a 10-7 score. It was Lane's lone win in the series over the last 16 matchups dating back to 1998.

Rattlers Bite Wildcats in Third Frame to Break Open Tie Contest
Playing their long FCS opponent of the year, the Wildcats were tied, 7-7, with the Rattlers in the second quarter and had a lead-taking score called back on a penalty. The two teams stayed tied at the same 7-7 score at intermission.
As FVSU had done the prior week, Florida A&M found paydirt on each of its first two possessions of the second half. The Rattlers drove 74 yards on eight plays for what turned out to be the winning touchdown, before their defense recovered a fumble on a sack and ran it back 45 yards for another touchdown.

Golden Making His Mark on Defensive Line
After having a 2019 season to expect more this season, senior defensive end Antonio Golden is not disappointing in the first two weeks of the 2021 season.
The senior has 12 tackles, 10 solo, 5.5 tackles for loss and four sacks in the last two weeks.
In the two spring games, Golden gave a preview of this fall where he had 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a fumble recovery. His last full season in 2019, he posted 26 stops, 10.5 tackles loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles over nine games.
