Wildcats Battle Tigers to Extra Points, Fall in Four

SAVANNAH, Ga. – In a back-and-forth match, which included a bat in the arena delay in the third set, the young Wildcats played hard in their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener. Fort Valley State captured the opening set, but Savannah State took the second before outlasting its visitors in extra points for the final two sets.
 
FVSU's (2-3/0-1 SIAC East) Morgan Hebert killed the final point of a 25-19 opening set. Savannah State bounced back for the 25-22 second set. The two conference foes went to extra points with the Tigers holding on for 28-26 and 26-24 finals.
 
Individually, Raven Edwards powered the Wildcats offense with 15 kills and 14 digs. Bianca Haslett was right behind with 12 kills, nine digs and a pair of service aces. Laiani McCullough posted the third double-digit kill night with 11 to go with 15 digs and three aces.
 
Hebert handed out an early season high 39 assists to go with eight kills and five digs. Elizabeth Moore dug 21 attacks at her libero position.
 
FVSU stays on the road for a Saturday afternoon matchup at 2 p.m. in a rematch from last Sunday against Paine College in Augusta, Ga.
