FORT VALLEY, Ga. – For the first time in the New Year, the Wildcats had almost a full lineup to play. SIAC-leading Savannah State, though showed its might and prevailed over Fort Valley State in an 88-50 women's basketball final Saturday afternoon.

Scoring the game's first eight points in the opening four minutes, the Tigers (13-0/7-0 SIAC East) saw the Wildcats (3-10/2-7 SIAC East) battle back for only a four-point difference, 10-6, after one period. Savannah State ran out in the second frame with a 20-2 outburst in the first six minutes of the second quarter to break open the contest, 30-10. FVSU was unable to take advantage of the early third-quarter momentum as its shots did not fall and was only able to get back to within 15 points.

Angel Williams and Ja'Meshia Williams led the home attack with eight points apiece. Angel hit 4 of 7 shots and grabbed four rebounds, but foul trouble limited her to 15 minutes of action, while Ja'Meshia down a pair of triples. Diamond Jones added seven points and three assists and Ja'Nya Ferguson grabbed 10 rebounds.

Savannah State had four double-figure scorers led by the big game of Ta'Quashia Lumpkin and her 22 points, 16 rebounds, seven steals and three assists.

FVSU will travel to Mobile, Ala., for a Tuesday night, Jan. 18, road game at Spring Hill College starting at 6:30 p.m. EST.
