Wildcats Fast Strong Not Enough Against Golden Rams

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – A strong early showing was not enough for the Wildcats Saturday afternoon. After Fort Valley State tied the game 20 seconds in the final quarter, Albany State netted the next nine points and rode the run for the eventual, 65-55, women's basketball victory.
 
The Wildcats (4-11/2-8 SIAC East) started fast with the game's opening seven points and nine of the first 10 for the 9-1 lead 4:05 into the contest after a Nyah Dismukes jump shot. Albany State chipped away the rest of the period and saw a one-point intermission score, 28-27. Amiya Allen capped a seven-point home spurt to start the second half only to see the Golden Rams (7-11/5-5 SIAC East) answer and have a one-point lead, 44-43, into the final quarter.
 
Torri Myers made 7 of 16 shots for a team-high 14 points to go with six rebounds, three blocks and two assists. Allen chipped in 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting and pulled down five rebounds. Ja'Meshia Williams and Nikki Culbreath hit for nine and eight points from the backcourt, while Ja'Nya Ferguson hauled in 11 rebounds. Dismukes had six points and Jah'ne Brown four.
 
Kashay Hankerson netted 15 points off the ASU bench to lead the visitors.
 
FVSU has the next week off before it hosts Allen University next Saturday, Jan. 29, in a 1 p.m. game.
