Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Take Control in Third, Tough out Win over Yellow Jackets

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Some games are not pretty, but the Wildcats will take the Saturday victory anyways. Trailing by two in the opening moments of the third quarter, Fort Valley State rattled off the ensuing 10 points and toughed out a women's basketball win, 60-56, over Allen University.

The Yellow Jackets (5-11) edged ahead on an inside jumper for a 29-27 score. Torri Myers netted the next two buckets and Jah'ne Brown chipped in four points of her own as part of the key, 10-0, run for the Wildcats (5-11) to open a 39-29 advantage at 3:52 in the third. Allen was able to put back to within a point with 8:30 left in the contest, but FVSU answered with eight of the 10 tallies and would not give up the lead.

Myers made 6 of 9 attempts of a game-high 18 points. Nikki Culbreath downed 5 of 11 shots, including a trio of treys, for 13 points and six rebounds. Brown added 12 points and eight caroms. Diamond Jones had seven points, five rebounds and six assists.

Jazeem Bethea paced Allen with 19 points off the bench.

FVSU has a short turnaround when it hosts Benedict College on Monday evening, Jan. 31, in a 5:30 p.m. tip.
